The conference is held at the "Ex stabilimento Florio" of the Favignana Island. Favignana is one of the three fabulous Aegadian Islands. It is situated approximately 18 kilometres (11 miles) west of the coast of Sicily, between Trapani and Marsala, the coastal area where the Stagnone Lagoon and the international airport of Trapani, are sited.
The event will be held at "Ex stabilimento Florio", a former tuna fishing factory now turned into a museum. The Tonnara Florio is an example of industrial archeology. It wasn’t only a place to keep the tools, anchors and fishing boats, but also the symbol of the islanders under the Florio rule. The museum can be explored to see artifacts from the surrounding area, from Roman vessels to biographies of former cannery workers.
Its architecture is characterized by big arches and high roofs which appear like the ancient cathedrals. The establishment extends for 32 square miles. After the renewal 2009, the museum includes now a large conference room with modern facilicities.
How to reach Favignana
By plane
The nearest airports are Birgi in Trapani or Falcone Borsellino in Palermo. Here there are taxis and buses; you can take them to reach Trapani and its port. We suggest, whenever possible, to land in Trapani as this is the nearest airport, just 30 minutes away from the town port. The journey from Palermo to Trapani port takes around 2 hours.
By Hydrofoil
This is the only way to get to Favignana from Sicily. Siremar and Ustica Lines run several hydrofoils crossing daily to Favignana, Levanzo and to Marettimo. Departures are from Trapani and Marsala. Ticket can be purchased online in a few easy steps.
With the patronage of Favignana Local Council.
